Informal co-working and Jelly
January 27th 2011One of the things I intend to do more of in 2011 (but haven’t done yet) is to get involved in some informal co-working.
This will take a number of forms, from spending the day at a spare desk in someone’s office to going along to one or two of the Jelly events I keep seeing people tweeting about.
The idea of Jelly is that people with unused space with turn it into a makeshift office for, say, an afternoon and offer an open invitation for people to come and work, meet, collaborate etc. The space could be an office, a disused building, someone’s home or even a coffee shop as long as seating and wifi is available. The intention is for people who normally work at home alone, and who miss the social and collaborative aspects of office life, to get some work done in proximity to other people and hopefully find new people to work with.
The great thing about Jelly is that it appeals to all sorts of people from entrepreneurs and technologists to artists, writers and film makers which opens up the possibilities for some really interesting collaborations.
I’m sure there are loads that I don’t know about but so far the London-based ones on my radar are:
- Jelly at SPACE – Hackney-based event in the MediaLab at SPACE every Thursday.
- Jelly at the Centre for Creative Collaboration – takes place every Wednesday afternoon at the space in Kings Cross that @lloyddavis presides over. This is also where Tuttle takes place every Friday morning.
